About Barry Harnick
He holds licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and also trained and worked as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) earlier in his career. Those combined trainings have shaped a practice able to address individual, relational, and life-stage difficulties, including work with PTSD and other trauma-related conditions. He spent many years at the United States Department of Veteran's Affairs, serving on a crisis team and at three different Vet Centers, where he worked with trauma survivors and veterans facing post-traumatic stress.
Barry has also worked as a hospice social worker, assisting people coping with grief, loss, and depression. He approaches each person with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and he adapts dialogue and treatment plans to the individual's unique needs. He recognizes the courage it takes to begin therapy and supports clients through that first step.

Therapeutic Approaches and Remote Care
Barry Harnick uses evidence-informed approaches to help people address specific problems and build coping skills. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought and behavior patterns - it is often used for depression, anxiety, and problems that benefit from practical coping strategies. Trauma-Focused Therapy concentrates on processing and understanding traumatic experiences, offering tools to reduce distress and improve daily functioning after trauma or post-traumatic stress. Solution-Focused Therapy emphasizes clear, achievable goals and small changes that move a person toward what they want to see different in their life.Choosing the right approach is part of the therapeutic process. Barry Harnick works collaboratively with clients to assess needs, preferences, and goals, then tailors an approach or combination of approaches that best fits each person. This collaborative planning helps ensure treatment aligns with the client’s priorities.
Online therapy extends these approaches through flexible formats - video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or text-based messaging - allowing licensed professionals to meet clients where they are. Remote options can make scheduling easier, support continuity of care during life transitions, and accommodate different communication styles while maintaining professional therapeutic work.
